Nurturing, educational and empowering swimming lessons for parents to do with their child...not to them...for a fun, happy and connected learning process.
You understand the importance of teaching your child essential skills for water safety but are concerned about programs that push too hard, instil fear, or are generally not enjoyable for little ones.
Oceanic Waterbabies can help! We know that what is done to the child, is absorbed by the child and becomes their way of dealing with others.
So we embrace a positive, loving start in the water with a belief that "parents can make the best teachers" as the bond of trust is strongest between them. To help make this happen, we empower parents by providing essential education, expert guidance and a high level of support as they teach their baby to swim.
Our teaching approach revolves around "learning is play and play is learning," ultimately leading to a more positive experience and happier babies.
WHO ARE WE?
The Waterbabies® program was founded by Kelly Rae in 1991. From small beginnings, Kelly has developed Oceanic Waterbabies into a world-class program, teaching thousands of parents over the years how to safely and joyfully teach their babies to swim.
We now have 3 locations around Perth, as well as a centre in Busselton.
Our teachers are trained to an exceptional standard, much more than national guidelines. Our teachers are required to:
- Be Austswim qualified.
- Be CPR certified.
- Have completed our comprehensive 6-12 months specialised Infant Teacher Training program.
- Complete ongoing training incorporating personal and professional development, in-water observation and technical application.

Our program curriculum is highly specialised and designed to enrich every stage of your baby’s natural development, enhancing physical, mental, social and emotional well-being.
An optimal learning environment is paramount for the best outcomes and is why we only hold one lesson at a time in the pool. Parents and their babies get to utilise the full pool space, minimising possible distractions, as there are no other activities in the water other than the Waterbabies class.
Class consistency means we focus on maintaining class age groups to be developmentally compatible and do our best to keep core groups swimming together so families can experience a strong social connection over time. To motivate the natural love of learning each lesson, parents are encouraged to help their child develop at their own pace within the supportive environment of their core class.
Teacher consistency means families have the same teacher each week, each term and for many families, each year. The three-way bond between teacher, parent and baby is a crucial factor to success and one we know produces the best results.
We offer a high level of individual support and additional follow up care when needed. We offer practical strategies, private sessions, supporting written material and careful monitoring of progress to achieve long term success.
Generous discounts are available for siblings enrolled in the same term of swimming.
