Connect with who you are as a parent
& forget the rest
Hi, I'm Andrea, Award-Winning Baby & Toddler Sleep Specialist
Midwife | Child Health Nurse | NDC Practitioner | Holistic Sleep Coach
When my eldest daughter was 5 months old we experienced significant sleep difficulties (hourly wake-ups!)
I was trying all of the things to improve her sleep.
Trying to resettle her during the day and put her down in a dark room to encourage longer naps in the hope that night sleep would improve. I was trying lavender sleep balms, block-out blinds and watching wake windows.
And some nights I resorted to driving around until she fell asleep because I couldn’t get her down. There was definitely no way that putting her down “drowsy but awake” was ever going to work!
I remember one time, I was so exhausted and just wanted to sit on the couch and watch tv and she woke up half an hour after I’d put her down for the night. I knew it was the start of another really long night and I ended up crying on the floor of her room, not knowing what on earth to try next.
I didn’t want to leave her to cry but nothing was working.
I knew I needed help, so I called the sleep advice helpline and booked us in for a sleep school stay.
Despite their reassurances, when we went along I discovered that it WAS cry-it-out, and I couldn’t bear to see the look on my daughter’s face or hear her cries.
By this stage I was feeling pretty defeated but I decided I was going to figure out how to improve our sleep and enjoy life again, without sleep training or tears.
It started me on the path of seeking further professional training and gave me a fresh perspective on the type of support that families really need… empowering, values-based and pragmatic.
When my second daughter was born we didn’t have any significant sleep challenges and I found confidence and joy in our days.
What is important is connection, with my baby, partner and with myself. I am so grateful that there is someone like you who supports parents and carers in this way.
